Applying to our courses is easy. Check the eligibility criteria, find out whether you qualify for financial assistance, and then start your application. Call us if you have questions!

Eligibility criteria and language requirements

To take the MRS Advanced Certificate, you need to meet only one of these criteria:

  • More than three months of market or social research experience, ideally with involvement in all aspects of research projects and/or some training in research methods
  • MRS Certificate in Market & Social Research or other training in research methods at college or university
  • Satisfactory nomination by your employer
  • Satisfactory nomination by your course tutor, if you aim to take the course alongside an undergraduate degree
  • Demonstrable academic achievement at A Level or higher
  • Interview with the Research Academy admissions team

To take any of our courses, you’ll need to meet only one of the following language criteria:

  • You’re a native English speaker
  • You can prove that you’ve worked or studied in an English-language environment for 3+ years (e.g. your CV)
  • Cambridge English: Advanced or Proficiency with an overall score of 175 and no less than 162 in each component (or equivalent)
  • IELTS 6.0 or above
  • TOEIC 880 or above

To take any of our courses, you’ll need all of these:

  • PC or laptop*
  • Headset with mic and speakers
  • Webcam
  • Chrome browser (recommended)
  • Good internet connection e.g. download speeds of 5 Mbps, upload speeds of 1 Mbps

*You can access the course using a mobile phone or tablet, but we think you’ll want the big screen size.

Financial assistance

MRBA Skills bursaries

A means-tested bursary scheme that could pay for all or part of your MRS Advanced Certificate course! Many of our candidates have benefited from it.

Black Heart Foundation

A scholarship scheme that’s open to anyone from an underprivileged background who is in financial need. If you’re considered ‘at’ risk, this scheme can help.

MRBA Skills bursaries

If you’re a UK-based researcher, MRBA Skills will support you if:

  • You work for an agency with an annual turnover of less than £2 million and you earn less than £35,000 annually, OR
  • You work for a client-side firm whose annual insight spend is less than £200,000 and you earn less than £35,000 annually, OR
  • You’re a freelancer researcher with an annual income of less than £50,000, OR
  • You’ve been made redundant from a research role

Application deadline: Apply by the 14th of March or 17th of October every year.

The Black Heart Scholars Programme

The Black Heart Foundation helps to improve educational access for children and young people from “under-privileged backgrounds, those in low resource environments, and those who are otherwise ‘at-risk’ due to poor health or nutrition, care, or focus”. You can apply if:

  • You can demonstrate that you’re in financial need
  • You come from an underprivileged background
